TODAY, the House Judiciary and Senate Judicial Proceedings Committees MUST hold a vote on these three priority bills for lower-income workers and job seekers.

HB1442: Maryland REDEEM Act of 2022 – Reducing Expungement Waiting Periods

• The proposed legislation will allow nonviolent misdemeanor and felony convictions to be eligible for expungement three and five years, respectively, after completing any mandatory supervision, including parole and probation.

HB1293: Eliminate License Suspensions for Lower-Income Child Support Obligors

• The proposed legislation will eliminate driver’s license suspensions as a penalty for child support obligors making less than 300% of the federal poverty line (~$39,000). This bill is supported by the MD Child Support Administration.

HB1011: Pretrial Home Detention – Funding for Electronic Monitoring

• The proposed legislation will allow for a three-year extension to the Judiciary’s private home detention monitoring payment program and create a workgroup to study the issue further.
