September 27, 2019: This week, PJC attorney Sally Dworak-Fisher testified before a U.S. House subcommittee to educate lawmakers about the continued importance of the Fair Labor Standards Act’s crucial protections, and the need to ensure against the erosion of those protections. Specifically, she spoke about the problem of businesses that misclassify their employees as independent contractors; misclassification denies workers critical protections such as the right to minimum wage and overtime pay and undermines fair competition. Sally spoke in support of the Payroll Fraud Prevention Act, which would require businesses to properly classify their workers, to keep records of those classifications, and to provide enhanced penalties for misclassification.
