O'sPD Nights at Camden Yards

September 23, 2011 -- Thanks to Lou Curran and the Baltimore Office of the Public Defender for organizing O’sPD Nights at Camden Yards this summer! The annual fundraiser sold 166 tickets for three games to benefit the Public Justice Center, the Foundation for Criminal Justice, and the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys Association. These games versus the Cincinnati Reds, Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees were part of six O’sPD Nights for area nonprofits and universities this season. Curran has been organizing O’sPD Nights for various causes since 2004, when the first game raised funds for the PJC in memory and appreciation of former assistant public defender M. Cristina Gutierrez.

Curran’s connection to the PJC is both professional and personal. He says, “OPD clients are frequently the same low-income demographic served by PJC and LAB [Maryland Legal Aid Bureau]…and OPD, PJC and LAB play summer softball in the same UnNamed Softball League, in my case, all on the same team.” Here’s to teamwork in the pursuit of justice.
