Upcoming Justice for Breakfast Discussion

May 25, 2010 – 8:15 am
DEATH BY DISCLOSURE?
Recent bills in the Maryland General Assembly have sought to add disclosure requirements and other restrictions tied to the funding of university legal clinics, legal services providers, and lawyers who bring actions against particular interest groups. Is this appropriate legislative oversight? Or is it a tactic to chill representation of people living in poverty, the environment, and civil rights? Will disclosure further politicize the judicial system and limit citizens’ enforcement of their rights? Is Maryland alone, or is this tactic a national trend to thwart legal services and equal access to law?
Come enjoy a provocative discussion with a panel of advocates, moderated by the Public Justice Center.
